The act of baptism is a crucial next step in the life of a believer. It is commanded by Jesus (Matthew 28:19), and is a visible sign that your life is forever changed. Your old self, with all your sin, has died with Christ. And just as he rose from the dead, you too have been raised to new life with him (Romans 6:3–8). You are united to Christ forever. It is also the visible sign that you have joined a new community, a new family, a new fellowship, with your fellow believers.
